How Not Obtaining a Perfect Life Balance is Key

I’ve been talking a lot recently about resetting over the summer, and finding that counter-balance between work and home life. I believe that trying to achieve perfect work-life balance is impossible and incredibly stressful. There are times that family, friends, and our health deserve more of us, and there are also times when work will require us to devote more time and therefore less time with family.

It’s very important to realize that you don’t need to find a perfect balance. Far from it!

If you remember, I spoke to Michelle Ragusa-McBain at the beginning of the year, and she made some excellent suggestions about achieving a work-life ‘integration’.  It highlights the importance of making tough choices, investing in relationships and seeking integration rather than a perfect work/life balance.

Watch my interview with Michelle.

It’s definitely worth a re-visit (and the particular point I would like you to listen to is around 19:00).

You see, we often look at others and think ‘they’ve got it together!’.

But what is ‘together’? What is ‘together’ for you?  What would it look like if you ‘had it all together’?

If you are struggling with what ‘having it together’ looks like (and it is different for all of us) then remember Michelle’s words, and look how you can integrate rather than seeking perfection.

Over the coming weeks, you have an opportunity to evaluate what is really important to you and find ways to give yourself grace and give yourself time for your own mental care.

Remember that you wear many hats and there will be times when some of those hats require more of your time than others, and this will change and vary throughout the year depending on what’s happening at that moment.

We often find ourselves stuck when we’re striving for perfection, when in reality, we need to understand the different needs of all the different aspects of our lives, and respond accordingly.  Having clarity on your goals and having the confidence to speak out about your own needs is an important part of getting this integration right.

If you need help with understanding how you can find that counter-balance and dive into the ways in which you can gain clarity, confidence and create a work/life integration that works for you, book a discovery call with me.  There’s no commitment, just a conversation to see if I can help, and you can use the opportunity to use me as a sounding board for any current issues you are facing.  I’d love to get to know you better and help you gain that not-perfect work/life integration.

Cheering you on always!
